Methodology

SteamScope fuses multiple public signals into ownership and revenue estimates: review counts (Boxleiter method), global achievement statistics, live concurrent player charts and randomized profile sampling. Each estimate includes an uncertainty band. Data refreshes continuously; estimates refine over time.

Estimates are modeled from public data and carry uncertainty. Not official Valve figures.

Estimates use the Boxleiter method (review → sales multipliers). Accuracy ±40%. For precise numbers, publishers use our Pro data exports.

Signals

  • Review counts — Boxleiter method with price-band multipliers (free: ~55×, under $5: ~95×, $40–60: ~40×, AAA: ~34×).
  • Live player charts — Steam's official concurrent-player ranking, polled every 15 minutes.
  • Global achievements — mean completion percentages bound the owner base.
  • Profile sampling — randomized public-profile sampling with owned-game extraction (requires API key).

Revenue model

Estimated revenue = units × effective price, where effective price discounts the sticker price for sales, bundles and regional pricing (≈0.62× factor for paid games).
